NISLT Acting DG Calls for Effective Laboratory Management at ASLTON University of Ibadan Scientific Workshop

The Acting Director-General/Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT), Dr. Peter Adefisoye Oluwafisoye, FISLT, mnip, has emphasized the critical importance of effective laboratory management in advancing scientific research, improving quality service delivery, and promoting sustainable national development.

Dr. Oluwafisoye made this assertion while delivering the opening remarks at the Association of Science Laboratory Technologists of Nigeria (ASLTON), University of Ibadan Chapter Scientific Workshop, held at the University of Ibadan on 15th July 2026.

The workshop, themed “Effective Management Skills for Improved Laboratory Operations and Quality Service,” brought together science laboratory technologists, professionals, researchers, academics, and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for strengthening laboratory operations and enhancing professional service delivery.

In his address, the NISLT Acting Director-General described laboratories as indispensable pillars of scientific discovery, technological innovation, quality assurance, education, environmental sustainability, and national development. He noted that the effective management of laboratory facilities, personnel, equipment, resources, safety protocols, and operational processes is essential to achieving reliable and credible scientific outcomes.

He further stressed the need for laboratory professionals to continuously develop their management and leadership competencies to effectively respond to the evolving demands of modern laboratory practice. According to him, sound management practices are critical to ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining quality standards, promoting workplace safety, and maximizing the use of laboratory resources.

Dr. Oluwafisoye encouraged participants to embrace continuous professional development, teamwork, accountability, innovation, and adherence to established standards and best practices. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration among professional bodies, academic institutions, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders in strengthening the laboratory profession and contributing meaningfully to national growth.

The workshop provided a platform for participants to gain new insights, share professional experiences, and explore practical approaches to improving laboratory operations and service delivery. Discussions also underscored the need for effective leadership, strategic planning, quality management systems, and continuous capacity building within laboratory environments.

The event further reaffirmed ASLTON’s commitment to promoting professional excellence, continuous learning, and the advancement of science laboratory technology practice in Nigeria.
