The Association of Science Laboratory Technologists of Nigeria (ASLTON), University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) Branch, has expressed profound appreciation to the Acting Director-General/Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT), Dr. Peter Adefisoye Oluwafisoye FISLT, mnip, and the National President of ASLTON, Pastor Ayotunde Omorilewa FISLT, for their impactful visit to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital on Tuesday, 21 July 2026.
The leadership of the ASLTON UPTH Branch conveyed its appreciation in a message signed by the Branch Chairperson, Mrs. Janefrances Boniface, following the visit, which also featured an engagement with the Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Professor Chituru Godswill Orluwene.
The Branch described the visit as timely, impressive, and highly impactful, noting that the presence of the two professional leaders brought renewed hope and encouragement to Science Laboratory Technologists serving within the institution.
According to the Branch Chairperson, the visit was particularly significant as it demonstrated the commitment of the leadership of NISLT and ASLTON to addressing the concerns and professional challenges confronting Science Laboratory Technologists and ensuring the proper recognition and placement of practitioners in accordance with the provisions of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (Establishment) Act No. 12 of 2003.
The ASLTON UPTH Branch expressed optimism that the engagement would contribute to positive developments in the professional standing and welfare of Science Laboratory Technologists, particularly within the healthcare sector, where laboratory professionals play a critical role in diagnosis, research, quality assurance, disease surveillance, and patient care.
The Branch further stated that the visit had boosted the morale of its members and reassured them that the leadership of both NISLT and ASLTON remained committed to standing with Science Laboratory Technologists and advancing the interests of the profession.
