The Association of Science Laboratory Technologists of Nigeria (ASLTON) has officially welcomed 299 newly inducted professionals into its fold during the 12th Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony of the School of Science Laboratory Technology, University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), held in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT).
Representing the National President of ASLTON at the event, the Vice President 1, Comrade Augustine Nkem Okorie joined stakeholders, academic leaders, and professional colleagues in celebrating the successful induction of the 2023/2024 graduating set into the Science Laboratory Technology profession.
As part of activities marking the ceremony, the ASLTON delegation participated in a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Princewill Rewhuamwhu Chike. The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the Association and the University while highlighting the importance of professional development and capacity building within the Science Laboratory Technology profession.
A major highlight of the event was the formal reception of the newly inducted professionals into ASLTON. Delivering remarks on behalf of the National President, Comrade Augustine Okorie congratulated the inductees on reaching an important milestone in their professional journey and encouraged them to uphold the highest standards of ethics, competence, and professionalism.
The 299 inductees were subsequently received by the Rivers State Chapter Chairman, Dr. Henrrietta Ogadimma Asuzu-Samuel who also served as the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman, as well as leaders of the Branch, marking their official integration into the Association.
Speaking after the event, Comrade Okorie described the experience as rewarding and inspiring, noting the enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by the newly inducted professionals. He also expressed appreciation for the warm reception extended by members and leaders of the Rivers State Chapter.
Before departing Port Harcourt, he held discussions with Rivers State members of the Association on matters of professional and organizational importance, including preparations for Kaduna 2026, the Scheme of Service, the Annual NISLT Subscription, and other issues affecting the growth and welfare of Science Laboratory Technologists across the country.
The successful induction ceremony further underscores ASLTON’s commitment to mentoring emerging professionals, promoting continuous professional development, and strengthening the future of Science Laboratory Technology practice in Nigeria.
