The Association of Science Laboratory Technologists of Nigeria (ASLTON) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing science laboratory education, professional development, and quality laboratory practice through a successful courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Professor Samuel Ovuete Aghalino.
The courtesy visit, which took place on Wednesday, 6 August 2026, brought together the ASLTON DOU Chapter, alongside state and national executives of the Association. The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to explore areas of mutual collaboration and discuss strategies for strengthening Science Laboratory Technology education and professional practice within the university.
During the meeting, the ASLTON delegation highlighted the important role of professionally trained and licensed Science Laboratory Technologists in supporting teaching, research, healthcare, industry, environmental monitoring, and other laboratory-dependent sectors. The Association also expressed its readiness to support initiatives that would enhance laboratory education and professional standards at Dennis Osadebay University.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ovuete Aghalino, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting science education and professionalism. He expressed support for the introduction of a Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) programme at the University and acknowledged the importance of producing competent and professionally oriented laboratory personnel to meet the growing demands of science, technology, health, industry, and environmental sustainability.
The discussions also explored opportunities for stronger collaboration between Dennis Osadebay University and ASLTON, particularly in the areas of professional development, laboratory management, capacity building, students’ training, and the advancement of science laboratory education.
The meeting culminated in the presentation of an Award of Recognition to Professor Samuel Ovuete Aghalino in appreciation of his exemplary leadership, commitment to quality education, and demonstrated support for the advancement of science laboratory education and professionalism.
The successful engagement marked another significant step in ASLTON’s ongoing efforts to build strategic partnerships with higher institutions across Nigeria. The Association remains committed to working with universities, government agencies, professional bodies, and other stakeholders to strengthen Science Laboratory Technology education and promote excellence in laboratory practice.
The Association commended the management of Dennis Osadebay University for the warm reception and constructive engagement, expressing optimism that the outcomes of the visit would translate into sustainable collaboration and tangible progress in the development of Science Laboratory Technology at the University.
